Communication Assistant Professor Mia Fischer received the 2017 Outstanding Dissertation Award from the LGBTQ Division of the National Communication Association for her 2016 doctoral dissertation, "Terrorizing Gender: Transgender Visibility and the Surveillance Practices of the U.S. Security State" (completed at the University of Minnesota, advised by Drs. Mary Vavrus and Jigna Desai).
