Friday, June 6: The UCD PEP joined statewide allies at the Second Brainstorming Session of the emerging Colorado Coalition for Higher Education in Prisons, meeting this time at Regis University (in the interest of building team leadership, we are rotating meeting locations and meeting facilitators).

Monday, June 2: The UCD PEP completed Round 2 of our admissions process at Sterling, where we met with 60+ students to review their career goals, educational needs, and, if applicable, prior transcripts—all part of our doing due diligence to ensure program fit for our new students.

Friday, May 30: UCD PEP Academic Advisor Shana Medah and PEP alum Sean Mueller delivered a presentation entitled “Hope and Redemption: Advising Incarcerated and Recently Released Students for a Transformational Education.” They spoke before a packed conference room at the University of Northern Colorado, which was hosting the annual convention of the Colorado and Wyoming Academic Advising Association. As part of their talk, Medah and Mueller showed a clip from PEP alum Jacob Carlock’s presentation before the annual Incarcerated Scholar’s Conference, sponsored by the Alliance for Higher Education in Prison. The inspirational talk positioned UCD at the forefront of thinking about academic advising and prison education as interlinked forms of social justice.

Thursday, May 29: With thanks to co-editors Ben Boyce, Meghan Cosgrove, and Sinead Beacom, we sent the content of Volume 21 of Captured Words/Free Thoughts to Julia Beverly, our ace layout artist. Watch for more new about the imminent publication of Vol. 21.

Tuesday, May 27: The UCD PEP completed Round 2 of our admissions process at Territorial, where we met with roughly 40 students to review their career goals, educational needs, and, if applicable, prior transcripts—all part of our doing due diligence to ensure program fit for our new students.
