Richie (he/him/his|they/them/theirs) is a graduate student in the English department at CU Denver and a TA for the College of Arts and Media. He received a BS in Secondary English Education and a BA in Creative and Professional Writing from the University of Pittsburgh’s Greensburg branch in 2020, and moved to Colorado in December of the same year to pursue teaching full-time. After learning the ropes of teaching during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, they decided to take a step away from teaching to return to the world of academia as a student, and they have enjoyed more in-depth study, particularly of literature, queer theory, and living with disabilities. In his free time, he enjoys crocheting, embroidery, writing, reading, and playing board and video games with his two partners and big, orange cat, Kirby. Richie’s philosophy of education is hinged on meeting students where they are and working together to improve, especially with writing. They believe that everyone is capable of growing and learning with the right support and guidance, and that some of the scariness of writing can be soothed with the right combination of intentionality, understanding, and snacks.
