Grading Writing: Comments, Rubrics, and Grades

stack of notebooks

Grading writing is one of the most difficult tasks that faculty members face. However, this task can be made both easier and more effective—not to mention quicker—by following some specific principles and strategies. Based on how students read and respond to comments, attendees will learn how to focus their reading, how to comment effectively, and how to use rubrics and grades to enable student learning and success. Time will be allocated in the workshop to practicing reading and commenting on student writing.
