To say that the Spring 2020 semester was a difficult one would be an understatement. All across the globe, tough decisions to pause or transition to an online environment had to be made to help slow the spread of the deadly COVID-19 virus, including on our own campus here at CU Denver.
One blow of such a shift was the delay of the moment that all students look to as the finish line in their mind's eye - the graduation ceremony. All of the years of students' work culminates in this iconic event wherein they walk across the stage decked out in cap and gown, shake our Chancellor's hand, and receive their diploma with friends and family - often who have traveled miles to join in the celebration - cheering in the audience.
It's the event we, as a department, look forward to the most every year. And this year that moment is on pause because of an unprecedented pandemic.
Yes, there will be a graduation ceremony when the restrictions lift in the fall to retroactively award these diplomas in person to our very deserving students, but we still understand the feeling of loss that many of our students have expressed at this delay. We feel it too and we grieve it with you.
That's why we decided to do what we can right now, and create this post in honor of our incredible list of graduates. We know it's not the same, and we can't wait for the day that we can celebrate you for this marvelous achievement in full regalia.
Until then, know that you all are in our thoughts and that we as a department are so proud of each of you for this momentous accomplishment. Well done.
