Part-time Paid Law Clerk Position for Undergrad Pre-law Students

Published: April 10, 2026

For more than 10 years a local law firm has been recruiting students from Law Studies (majors, minors, and related areas) here at CU Denver. These are part-time paid law clerk positions for undergraduate pre-law interested students. The positions begin in Fall 2026 and run for 12 months; you should only apply if you can do the full 12 months without issues.  It starts mid-August 2026 and runs through mid-August 2027.

Andrew Kroll, a CU alum and experienced Lakewood attorney, runs this program for part-time, paid law clerks that allows students to gain rare, resume-building, real-world experience in a private law firm in the areas of estate planning, asset protection, and marital property planning (see on their website) without having to take away much time from their studies. The firm regularly works on legal research, writing, speaking, networking, and advocacy, all of which put an applicant at a significant advantage for getting into law school and finding quality law jobs during and after. The program will not fit with everyone’s schedule/life, so it’s essential to carefully review the details below to determine mutual fit. They usually have 3-5 law clerks at any given time.

The job has a very limited time commitment (average is typically 6-12 hours total per week).  The firm hires clerks to work Mondays, Fridays, and alternating Wednesdays [those days are essential] in our Lakewood office, usually after 11:00 a.m. or 12:00 p.m. through 4:00 or 5:30 (so you can still take earlier morning classes on some of those days if they don’t conflict).  Please contact Andrew Kroll at akroll@krolldenverlaw.com right away if you meet that availability and are interested.  He will be receiving applications during the next 2-3 weeks.  Meeting the schedule days (Mondays and Fridays, with alternating Wednesdays,) in those time ranges for the full 11.5-12 months is essential to the position (we do take some days off), as is the ability to make the commitments described below.

Candidates need to be able to travel to Lakewood (10 minutes west of downtown, within walking distance from light rail).  It’s not essential that an applicant have any one specific practice area in mind to benefit from this clerkship.  Successful applicants must have enough flexibility with their work and school commitments and financial ability to stay in this position without leaving it for the 12 months.  Students will have contact with clients, so strong social skills are helpful.  The program is sometimes not as good of a fit for students who plan to have another job at the same time while in school, but it is possible in limited circumstances to make that work (usually a non-conflicting paid or unrelated job).

This is not a one semester or summer-only type position, we ask that students seeking that type of opportunity kindly not apply, as there are generally more than 4-5 or more times the qualified applicants to slots.  This is a commitment, but it’s also a truly unique opportunity for the right candidate.  It also tends to be a fun, low stress environment that allows for mentoring and exploration of professional interests. Upon request, you may speak with one or more previous or current law clerks if you have questions about their experience.
