Welcome Visiting Scholar - Olukayode Bakare

Political Science is pleased to welcome Dr. Olukayode Bakare as a visiting scholar to our program over the coming year.   Dr. Bakare earned his PhD on international relations from the University of Aberdeen, UK, and has held teaching and research roles at various universities in Nigeria and the United Kingdom. Dr. Bakare has played key roles in academic forums within his field and has presented at many international conferences. He recently serviced as a visiting scholar and researcher in International Relations at the Department of Politics, School of Global and International Affairs, State University of New York at Oswego, New York, USA. He has also been a Visiting Fellow in Security and Statecraft at the London School of Economics and Political Science’s Department of International Relations, UK. Additionally, he has served as a Teaching Associate, Seminar Leader, and Visiting Fellow in international affairs at Durham University's School of Government and International Affairs in Durham.

 

Recently, Dr. Bakare was featured in an Al Jazeera newscast where he was interviewed about the need for an African nation to have a seat on the UN Security Council.  See here:  story

 

In the fall of 2026, Dr. Bakare will offer a Special Topics CU Denver class titled “International Relations and the Global South: African Perspectives” (PSCI 4002).   We encourage our students to consider this unique opportunity to learn about African perspectives from a scholar with deep knowledge of the region.
