This fall, we are excited to welcome Vanessa Navarro-Rodríguez, who is joining our Department as a tenure-track professor with expertise in Latin American politics and the relationship between Indigenous peoples and the state. Focusing on the case of the Mapuche in Chile, Professor Navarro-Rodriquez examines how the extraction of natural resources affects Indigenous people's identity and political behavior. Prior to her work in Indigenous politics she researched issues of gender-based violence.
Professor Navarro-Rodríguez is looking forward to joining the department and teaching classes on Indigenous politics, the political economy of resource extraction, social movements, and gender and conflict. She is excited with her new role of working with and mentoring our CU Denver students.
Welcome, Dr. Navarro-Rodriguez!
