What is to be defended? What should it be defended against? By what means should it be defended? These three questions lie at the heart of the discipline of International Security. The answers to them vary from one approach to international security to another. This course introduces students to the answers offered by the main approaches in the discipline. It discusses the theoretical and normative premises underpinning each approach and their policy implications. The latter is approached through the discussion of cases from different historical and geographical contexts, including the war in Ukraine, immigration in the West, the American-Sino completion, the genocide in Rwanda, and the Iranian nuclear program. Enroll now for Spring 2024!
