On Friday September 15th, Professor James Walsh will be holding an exciting, informative event about Leadville’s Shanty Irish population! Come learn about Irish immigrants who traveled to Leadville from Ireland mining communities for better lives. “Unearthed: Voices of Leadville’s Shanty Irish” reflects on their history and explores topics like immigration, labor, systemic poverty, and identity. A long-awaited unveiling of the newly installed Leadville Irish Miner’s memorial will be held on September 16th, 2023, along with a number of Irish cultural celebrations. This memorial is all thanks to Dr. Walsh’s extensive, years-long research. Join the celebratory reception at the Healy House Museum & Dexter Cabin on September 15, 2023, from 6:30 – 8:30 PM, where attendees will enjoy catered cultural dishes! The event will also feature speakers from the Ish community and attendance from Latinx immigrants.
