Spring 2022 Graduate Teaching Assistantships

Published: Sept. 20, 2021

The CU Denver Political Science Department will have multiple quarter-time Graduate Teaching Assistantships during the Spring 2022 semester. Active graduate students enrolled in our M.A. program in the Spring 2022 semester are eligible to apply.

Duties of a quarter-time Graduate Teaching Assistant may include leading discussion sections, grading, and advising students. The compensation is $3,864 per semester for a quarter-time position. The job involves about 6 hours per week and should not be attempted by those holding full-time employment.

To qualify for a position, you must be a regular graduate degree student and must be enrolled during the entire term. Applicants must have a 3.5 grade point average or better. Applicants must also be full-time students (enrolled in at least five hours of 5000-level courses) or enrolled in thesis/project hours. Federal law requires that graduate students be enrolled for a minimum of 3 credit hours for the term in which they are employed, including summer, to be exempt from the Colorado Student Retirement Plan.

The general guidelines of the CU Denver Political Science Department are as follows:

  1. While graduate students in related programs (e.g. MH/MSS) are eligible to apply, first consideration will be given to graduate students in the CU Denver Political Science Program. When the department receives more applications than positions available, preference may also be granted to more advanced graduate students.
  2. Unless otherwise indicated in writing assistantships are for one semester. Good performance in the current semester may lead to reappointment in the following semester, however priority may be given to students who have not previously served in order to provide teaching experience for all PSCI graduate students who wish to serve as Graduate Teaching Assistants.
  3. The CU Denver Political Science Department is committed to high quality teaching and research, equal opportunity, and affirmative action.
