If your focus is philosophy you are already on the right path! The CU Denver Philosophy Department faculty, instructors, and lecturers can lend their support. Our department advisor, Dr. Samuel Walker, is a great sounding board. You can also stop by the program assistant's desk and she can give you some advice related to who may be the best resource for you to get started.

The CU Denver Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) is a competitive program designed to financially support research projects for CU Denver undergraduate students. Undergraduate research is an opportunity to extend learning outside the traditional classroom, laboratory, or studio; to utilize creativity and curiosity in the development of new knowledge, art, or innovation; to become more self-confident and independent; to gain experience in presenting results to peers and mentors. UROP supports student projects under the broadest possible definition of “research.” All declared undergraduate students, independent of college or school, are eligible for UROP research funds.

The purpose of the Research and Creative Activities Symposium is to promote and showcase the scholarly activities of undergraduate and graduate students, celebrate the creative process, foster professional development through academic excellence, promote and showcase collaborative efforts among students and faculty, encourage interdisciplinary scholarly activities, establish and build connections with the community, and celebrate and foster diversity at CU Denver.

When possible, the Philosophy department will support student research, including travel to conferences, competitions, etc. Funds are typically limited and it is most likely that only a portion of the expenses can be defrayed. Students wishing to apply for research funds should fill out the Philosophy Travel Request Form and submit it to Dr. David L. Hildebrand, Chair of the Department. Decisions on funding will be made as quickly as possible, likely in less than two weeks.

Recent Conference Notices and Calls for Papers!
Undergraduate papers on any philosophical topic will be considered. Papers should be no longer than 3,000 words (twenty-five minutes reading time). The deadline for e-mail submissions is December 22nd, 2017. Submissions should be sent in .rtf format to both of the following e-mail addresses:
msilcox@uco.edu and edadlez@uco.edu.
Keynote speaker will be Dr. Christina Van Dyke of Calvin College and Rutgers University. Professor Van Dyke is associate editor of The Cambridge History of Medieval Philosophy and the author of Aquinas’s Ethics: Metaphysical Foundations, Moral Theory, and Theological Context.
