The CLAS Staff Council invites your nominations for outstanding CLAS Staff to be recognized for excellence in service and engagement on behalf of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at CU Denver in the categories listed below. Please note that these awards are separate from the Campus Staff Excellence Awards that recently announced and these are for CLAS Staff only.

Nominations will be accepted from December 17, 2024, to February 28, 2025, and the winners will be announced in CLAS News in May 2025.
Please read the eligibility criteria carefully for each award as described below. You may nominate an individual staff member for more than one award category if they meet the eligibility criteria. However, an employee may not be selected as the winner for more than one award category.
Nominations will be reviewed by a subcommittee appointed by the CLAS Staff Council. The committee will review applications of all eligible applicants and select one awardee for each category. In the event of a tie, additional awards may be given.
The award categories are:
- CLAS Staff Award: Outstanding Newcomer
- CLAS Staff Award: Student Engagement
- CLAS Staff Award: Community Engagement
- CLAS Staff Award: Excellence in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
- CLAS Outstanding Staff Award
CLAS Outstanding Newcomer
Award Criteria
The CLAS Outstanding Newcomer Staff Award provides recognition for a staff member who is new to the college (employed no less than 6 months and no more than 18 months) and demonstrates outstanding service, initiative, and/or achievement. These contributions must provide a significant benefit specifically for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Colorado Denver campus.
Eligibility
This award competition is open to 40% time or greater permanent classified staff, university staff, professional research assistants and senior professional research assistants who are current College of Liberal Arts and Sciences employees within CLAS for a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 18 consecutive months from the date nominations are announced as due. Employees may have multiple years of work experience but must be new (employed only 6-18 months as specified above) to working in CLAS.
CLAS Staff Award: Student Engagement
Award Criteria
The CLAS Outstanding Student Engagement Staff Award provides recognition for a staff member who demonstrates excellent service, initiative, and/or achievement expressly related to serving, assisting or engaging with students in an outstanding way. These contributions must provide a significant benefit to students specifically enrolled in the University of Colorado Denver College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Eligibility
This award competition is open to 40% time or greater permanent classified staff, university staff, professional research assistants and senior professional research assistants who are current College of Liberal Arts and Sciences employees and who have been employed as permanent staff within CLAS for a minimum of 12 consecutive months.
CLAS Staff Award: Community Engagement
Award Criteria
The CLAS Outstanding Community Engagement Staff Award provides recognition for a staff member who demonstrates excellent service, initiative, and/or achievement specifically as related to serving, assisting or engaging with community members, university partners, community service organizations and/or alumni in an outstanding way. These contributions must provide a significant benefit specifically for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Colorado Denver campus.
Eligibility
This award competition is open to 40% time or greater permanent classified staff, university staff, professional research assistants and senior professional research assistants who are current College of Liberal Arts and Sciences employees and who have been employed as permanent staff within CLAS for a minimum of 12 consecutive months.
CLAS Staff Award: Excellence in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Award Criteria
The CLAS Excellence in DEI Staff Award provides recognition for a staff member who advances diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and belonging within their unit, among colleagues, or for students in an outstanding way. These contributions must provide a significant benefit specifically for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Colorado Denver campus.
Eligibility
This award competition is open to 40% time or greater permanent classified staff, university staff, professional research assistants and senior professional research assistants who are current College of Liberal Arts and Sciences employees and who have been employed as permanent staff within CLAS for a minimum of 12 consecutive months.
CLAS Outstanding Staff Award
Award Criteria
The CLAS Outstanding Staff Award provides recognition for a staff member who demonstrates outstanding service, leadership, ability, initiative, and/or achievement. These contributions must provide a significant benefit specifically for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Colorado Denver campus.
Eligibility
This award competition is open to 50% time or greater permanent classified staff, university staff, professional research assistants, and senior professional research assistants who are current College of Liberal Arts and Sciences employees and who have been employed as permanent staff within CLAS for a minimum of 12 consecutive months.
Staff Shout Out
In addition to these awards, we invite you to give a "Staff Shout Out" to someone who helps make your day better! It is quick and easy to do. You just say a few nice words about how great this staff person is, and they will receive a Starbucks gift card as a sign of our appreciation! Professional Development Funds
Last, but not least, we have professional development funds (up to $300) to offer to staff. Applications are accepted on our website.
