A Fellowship to Earn While You Learn in Local Government
Shortly after our founding, New Directions worked with the Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) to establish what is now known as the Best and Brightest Management Fellowship Program. If you are an enrolled graduate student or applying to receive your Master’s, you are eligible to apply for this two year, paid opportunity to earn while you learn. The fellowship is a partnership between DOLA and counties or municipalities to meet the needs of Colorado communities, engage future leaders, and meet you where you are in your exploration of a public service career.
The fellowship places graduate students like you in a two-year role with a local government, typically in a smaller or rural community. Past examples include assistant town manager, sustainability officer, or policy analyst. You will learn skills to address the needs and challenges faced by local communities, both on the job and through your related graduate studies. New Directions’ weekend courses are the perfect complement to the full time, weekday schedule of this local government fellowship.
Fellows are compensated with a salary and benefits package: $57,000 year one, $63,000 year two, with a $3,000 bonus for each year completed.
