Language, Literature and Culture (LLC)--Track A

The Language, Literature and Culture (LLC) track focuses on the linguistic and cultural elements of Spanish as a world language. Students take courses in language skills, linguistics, literature, language for the professions, culture and have elective options in related fields. This is the recommended track for those whose primary interest is the Spanish language and its associated cultures, double majors, teachers or those considering graduate work in Spanish.

Take a total of 36 credit hours from the following courses: 

1. Required courses:

SPAN 3065 - Spanish Phonetics and Pronunciation; SPAN 3101 - Intro to the Study of Literature in Spanish; 

SPAN 32xx - One course in Culture and Civilization; SPAN 37xx - One course in Spanish for the Professions

2. Four courses (minimum 12 semester hours) at the 4000 level

3. Four courses (minimum 12 semester hours) of electives.

A minimum of 6 elective credit hours must be upper-division (numbered 3000 or above) SPAN courses. The other six credits may be SPAN 2110, 2120, any SPAN course at the 3000 or 4000 level, or elective courses from a related field, with approval from the student’s SPAN major advisor. 

Examples of related fields include:

• Latin American Studies (from fields such as History, Geography, Political Science and Art History)
• Hispanic American Studies
• Linguistics 
• Comparative Literature
• Upper division courses in another foreign language
• Ethnic Studies

The minimum grade that can be credited toward the major requirement in related fields is C- (1.7).
