My work with the Denver Botanic Gardens focuses on fungal systematics, which is the overarching study of the evolutionary history of fungi. Specifically, my work revolves around the genus of fungi Laccaria, commonly known as the "Deceivers." These colorful fungi are fascinating due to the physiological similarities between many species, particularly in the Rocky Mountain region. By using DNA sequencing in conjunction with morphological analysis, I intend to describe the known species of Laccaria in the Southern Rocky Mountain Region.
