Multiple Sympetrum internum dragonflies mating in close proximity to each other in (top) the Arapahoe-Roosevelt National Forest in Colorado at a pond within the Cameron Peak Fire perimeter at 1201 h on 29 July 2023, and (bottom) the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest in Wyoming at a pond within the Mullen Fire perimeter at 1249 h on 30 July 2023.

On September 30th, Ph.D. Student Sarah Nalley and Dr. Mike Moore published a natural history note, Aggregate Mating Behavior of Sympetrum Dragonflies in Colorado and Wyoming Wildfire Perimeters, in The Southwestern Naturalist journal.
