Place, date, time: Blake Street Tavern on Thursday 3 March 2022 at 6:30 PM.
Our speaker: David Beckham, MD
The Topic: Knee deep in viruses, what changed and what's next?
Over the last 40 years, we’ve seen both an acceleration and increased diversity of emerging viruses throughout the world. In this Café, we will briefly review the history of emerging RNA viruses, the factors that are contributing to emergence events, and next steps we can take (and are taking) to prepare for the next virus pandemic.
Dr. Beckham completed his clinical and infectious disease training at Baylor College of Medicine and University of Colorado School of Medicine. He then completed post-doctoral training in virology and began a faculty position at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Over the past 15 years, his laboratory has studied emerging RNA virus infections with a focus on flaviviruses like West Nile virus, Zika virus, dengue virus, and more recently SARS-CoV 2. His laboratory also studies the interactions between evolutionarily conserved immune responses in the brain and neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s disease. This will be Dr. Beckham’s 2nd time presenting at Cafe Sci!
At this special Cafe, we will gather in-person after two years apart and we will celebrate J John Cohen, MD, PhD, founder of the Denver Cafe Sci. We lost John "JJ" in November. In addition to the Cafe Sci, there are several other events on the Anschutz Medical Campus celebrating JJ's life and legacy, please see details below.
***We ask that everyone attending be vaccinated or to wear a mask. Omicron is still out there and we want to keep everyone safe. Thank you in advance :)! As a reminder, seating at BST is open. And as always, for good parking and good seats, we recommend arriving early!***
