Leveraging biological collections for the study of host-symbiont systems
Biological collections offer a rich resource for studying biodiversity and eco-evolutionary processes driving the distribution of life on our planet. This seminar will explore some of the ways in which collections can be used to study the ecology and evolution of parasites and microbial symbionts in birds and mammals. It will also examine how these diverse life forms (parasites, bacteria, and vertebrates) may be interconnected, and will highlight future areas of collections-based research including the role of microbial symbionts in the evolution of the vertebrate GI tract.
