Join Dr. Paul Le and Dr. Molly Nepokroeff for Maymester 2025 in Costa Rica!
As a science course, we will focus on the biodiversity of Costa Rica. You will get the opportunity to explore multiple ecosystems and life zones (e.g., lowland tropical rain forest, montane cloud forest, paramo, lowland coastal habitats) and participate in ongoing research and learn about major conservation efforts in Costa Rica. The topics include introducing you to the geography and life zones of Costa Rica, major plant and animal groups, and principles of marine biology.
While in Costa Rica, we will visit three major areas:
(1) Selva Verde Reserve (lowland tropical rain forest), (2) the Osa Peninsula for marine biology and cetacean behavior research (3) the Cordillera de Talamanca for paramo (tropical alpine) and cloud forest.
We hope that you leave this class with a better consideration and appreciation of the natural world, more confidence in field journaling and identification, and understanding of the intersections of science and society.
