CU System Skillsoft Security Course To Be Completed by Nov. 30

Published: Oct. 6, 2023

The University of Colorado now requires university employees to complete an Information Security Awareness Skillsoft training every two years to help maintain proper digital security safeguards. All faculty, staff and student employees received a message earlier this week from the CU System Office of Information Security—in collaboration with campus information security and compliance executive leadership—regarding this new systemwide requirement.

When is the new required course completion due?

Employees must complete the university’s Information Security Awareness Skillsoft course by November 30, 2023.

If you have completed the course within the past two years, you are not required to retake it until two years have passed. New employees are required to complete the course within 60 days of being hired. To determine if you've taken the course, you can log into Skillsoft and check your Learning Transcript. (The link for the Learning Transcript is in the upper left side of the page in the Quick Links menu; the course is called CU: Information Security Awareness.)

Next steps for completing the Skillsoft course

  • Log into the CU Denver | Anschutz Campus Portal (my.cu.edu) and navigate to Skillsoft. Select the CU Denver | Anschutz Skillsoft course offerings. Click on Information Security and Technology from the left-hand list of sub-categories and scroll to the CU: Information Security Awareness course.
  • Set aside 30 minutes of quiet time to complete the course and take a quiz. Employees must pass the quiz with an 80% or higher for completion.

Security awareness training helps the university community stay safe digitally by learning how to identify and avoid cyber threats. It also teaches us how to protect our personal information and the university’s data. The CU Office of Information Security has created a webpage with additional information and FAQs about the new training requirement.
