Science Building Wifi Upgrade

Hello,

Through a collaboration with Metropolitan State University (MSU), the Wi-Fi network in the Science Building will be upgraded in May.

We expect once the project is completed, the reliability of the network will be much improved and most of the dead zones in the building that we’ve heard about, should disappear. This project was made possible through a state-funded program that MSU is leading and will benefit CU Denver and Community College of Denver (CCD) because we all use the building.

To achieve our new and improved Wi-Fi network, it will require a building-wide outage from May 13 to May 23. These days were selected to reduce potential impact on students, faculty, and staff given the semester will be almost wrapped up. We understand grades are due around this time, and we suggest faculty work from home to reduce frustrations.

However, for those who want to be in the building, hard lines (through the wall) and phones will continue to be operational. Dr. Pamela Jansma, dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, as well as the chairs of chemistry and integrative biology are being individually notified about the outage in the coming days. We are working with MSU and CCD to get signs up in the building beginning May 1 to give people as much advance notice as possible. We will also be sharing an information item in the CUDN newsletter in advance of the outage.

I wanted to reach out to you to make sure you were aware this project and that we are reaching out directly to those affected and campuswide for general notification in advance of the work beginning. We are thrilled to be part of this project because it will ultimately help our faculty, students, and staff.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Doug Sicker
