The LGBTQ+ Faculty Assembly Committee (including our IB representative Lisa Johansen) is hosting a LGBTQ+ inclusive pedagogy workshop for our department. The workshop has been proven to benefit student success and retention and also works towards the university's strategic plan goal of becoming the nation's first equity serving institution. This workshop will be for our department specifically, and everyone is welcome (instructors, TAs, LAs, staff, etc.).

When: Friday, April 7, 2023 from 9:00 AM - 10:15 AM

Where: In-person at SI 4127   --OR--

Via Zoom at https://ucdenver.zoom.us/j/91913390740

This hour-long, interactive workshop will focus on the importance of LGBTQ+ inclusion for student success and retention. The workshop will cover basic LGBTQ+ terminology and offers faculty and staff hands-on scenarios and tips for LGBTQ+ inclusive practices. This includes, for example, sharing names and pronouns in various CU information systems, creating safe and welcoming spaces for LGBTQ+ students, and how to respectfully recover from mistakes. The workshop will also inform and direct participants to variety of important on- and off-campus resources, for example, a gender-inclusive restroom map of the Auraria campus, the LGBTQ+ Student Resource Center, and a detailed guide for changing names/pronouns in CU systems for both employees and students. We also invite participants to share college/discipline-specific experiences, concerns, or questions during Q&A.
