Inclusive STEM Teaching Project

Published: Feb. 24, 2023

Hello graduate students, graduate TAs, and undergraduate TAs,

Are you interested in learning more about inclusive and equitable practices in STEM teaching and learning? Have you been trying out new strategies (or want to learn new strategies to try in the future) and want a place to reflect and debrief? We invite you to join our Learning Community and participate in The Inclusive STEM Teaching Project!

The Inclusive STEM Teaching Project is a 6-week EdX course designed to advance the awareness, self-efficacy, and the ability of instructors to cultivate inclusive STEM learning environments for all their students and to develop themselves as reflective, inclusive practitioners. The course is free and will run March 6, 2023 to April 28, 2023. There are 5 weeks of content, but 8 weeks are provided for flexibility and scheduling. All participants who finish the course will be awarded a certificate of completion, and EdX offers an optional upgrade.

At the University of Colorado Denver, a team of facilitators (Ally Davidge, Goran Shikak, and Paul Le) who have been trained by the national Inclusive STEM Teaching Project team will lead a Learning Community to help participants discuss and reflect on their own goals and thoughts concurrently with the course. This Learning Community will help participants dive deeper into the material and provide space to share questions, musings, thoughts, and ideas.

Who is invited to be a part of the Learning Community?

Anyone who is interested is welcome to participate! We particularly encourage undergraduate and graduate TAs and plan on facilitating conversations using this context.

What should I do if I am interested in participating?

If you are interested in participating, we encourage you to sign up here (will take you directly to EdX). Please also fill out the following survey to express your interest to the facilitator team.

When will the Learning Community meetings occur?

Once we have a list of participants, we will send out a survey to determine the best time to meet. Depending on number of participants, we may have multiple weekly meeting times to allow for choice.

Where can I learn more information about the national project?
You can click here to explore the Inclusive STEM Teaching Project page and learn more about their efforts and course.

All participants who complete the course will receive a certificate from the Inclusive STEM Teaching Project, and we are currently seeing if we can find CLAS funding that may help pay for an EdX certified upgrade.

Thanks!

Paul Le (on behalf of the facilitator team)
