Angie Baur (BS), Carol T. English (MS), and Audrey Spencer (MS) recently published research Facultative Outcrossing Inferred From Pollen-Ovule Ratios In Penstemon Degeneri (Plantaginaceae), A Rare Colorado Endemic in The Southwestern Naturalist that documented plant breeding system in Penstemon degeneri, commonly known as Degener’s beardtongue. In this study, which was co-authored with Dr. Chrissy Alba and Dr. Leo P. Bruederle, facultative outcrossing was inferred from pollen-ovule data for this rare Colorado endemic. The research was supported with funding to Baur from the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program.
