Leveraging ecophysiology to understand amphibian resilience to disease in a changing world

Worldwide, amphibian populations have experienced unprecedented declines due to disease. While some species and populations have started to rebound in recent years, this resilience is threatened due to rapid environmental change. Leveraging ecophysiological and ecoimmunological tools, we can better understand how a changing world will impact disease resilience in ectothermic organisms such as amphibians, and make predictions of performance under future climate scenarios. Here, I will discuss experimental work that examines the direct and indirect effects of the developmental environment on amphibian immune function, physiology, and behavior, with implications for resilience under future climate change. I will also discuss a long-term field study that examines seasonal and climatic drivers of the host-pathogen relationship within amphibian communities across a latitudinal gradient in North America, providing insight into management.

Everyone is welcome to join the seminar, please email jacki.craig@ucdenver.edu to receive the Zoom link. Requests can be submitted any time before the seminar but not after 10:00am the day of the seminar.
