My name is Cole and I’m a Campaign Director with the Fund for the Public Interest in Denver. We are a citizen-based environmental advocacy organization that takes on issues including climate change, conservation, and public health. I'm writing to you about a summer job opportunity for your students or mentees!
This summer, our staff is going to work on a critical effort to reduce plastic pollution in Colorado. Plastics harm wildlife. Too often, animals mistake plastics for food and ingest it. Scientists have found plastic pollution in literally hundreds of species (The pollution of the marine environment by plastic debris: a review) and smallmouth bass. We need to reduce the amount of plastic we produce, especially all the unnecessary plastic packaging we don’t want and can’t avoid. Like the plastic wrap that comes around fruit at a grocery store or a tube of toothpaste that is already wrapped in a cardboard box. The Plastic Pollution Reduction Act was a great first step. Now, we need to put the responsibility of dealing with this plastic waste back onto the producers of this packaging. This summer, we will mobilize the Colorado public and build the support needed to reduce unnecessary plastics at the source.
We're hiring students from CU Denver and the surrounding area as paid campaign staff to help with our citizen outreach work in Denver this summer. Can you forward this email or send out the below job description to your students or advisees?
As paid campaign staff, students will build grassroots power, learn the building blocks of political organizing, talk to hundreds of people about environmental issues, and work closely with our senior staff team.
