An integrative perspective on seasonal thermal plasticity: modelling how summer and winter microclimate variation affects the life-cycle of a butterfly

To survive in seasonal environments, animals display a stunning array of adaptations that optimize fitness in various parts of the season. We study these adaptations in the laboratory from mechanistic perspectives with focus on stress tolerance, energetics and biological clocks, and in the field, by combining microclimate measurements and remote sensing, to understand how the whole life-cycle is tuned to different specific environments.
