Today (3/26/21) is the deadline to submit nominations for the IB Department’s Outstanding Student Awards and Spring Smilodon Awards.
We recognize students in the following categories:
• Spring Smilodon Awards (Undergraduate students; two awarded per semester)
• Outstanding Teaching Assistant in Integrative Biology (Undergraduate or Graduate student)
• Outstanding Undergraduate Research in Integrative Biology
• Outstanding Service in Integrative Biology (recognize citizenship, service, community contribution)
• Outstanding Graduate Student in Integrative Biology (an in-progress award to acknowledge accomplishments, such as publications or meeting presentations)
• Outstanding Graduate Defense in Integrative Biology (M.S. Thesis or Ph.D. Dissertation)
To be eligible for these awards, a student must be currently enrolled with an established GPA at the University of Colorado Denver. Undergraduate students must have a declared major in biology and graduate students must be enrolled in an Integrative Biology graduate program. Graduating students are eligible.
Nominations for the IB Outstanding Student Awards are solicited from faculty and staff. Nominations should be submitted electronically to Jacki Craig by MARCH 26th at 5:00pm. Nomination letters should be a maximum of 1 page in length (double spaced). A strong nomination clearly specifies why the student should be considered and should address multiple facets of their achievement. This may include a variety of indicators, such as motivation, perseverance, enthusiasm, depth and breadth of interest in biology, academic performance, outreach, and extenuating circumstances. Nominations should document that the student meets the eligibility requirements. Nominations will be reviewed by the Awards, Scholarship and Outreach (ASO) Committee for selection of the recipients (by consensus). The ASO committee will not consider nominations that do not meet the requirements detailed here.
Awardees will be notified by email. Outstanding Student awardees will receive a certificate and their names will be engraved on the IB awards plaque located in the fourth-floor atrium of the Science Building. Smilodon awardees will receive a certificate and a $250 prize.
Thanks,
ASO Committee
