October 28, 2020:
In response to the rising number of COVID-19 cases and increases in positive tests and increased hospitalizations, the state has moved Denver to a Level 3 Safer at Home public health order with new guidelines. Beginning tomorrow, non-critical retail stores, offices, houses of worship, and restaurants will be required to operate at 25% capacity.
Because our campus had already implemented stringent requirements this fall, there are no changes needed for CU Denver. We are already below the 25% office occupancy requirement and meet the other requirements.
- Classroom Education: There are no needed changes to our classroom education because we did not push to have large classes back on campus this fall. However, we are reminding faculty and students that “small group” discussions can only be held if they are socially distanced at least six feet apart while wearing face coverings.
- Student Wellness Center: The Wellness Center is open and will continue to operate under its current operational plans which limit overall occupancy to 25%.
- Building Hours and Access: We will not be modifying any building hours or access in response to the public health order. However, the three CU Denver buildings on the downtown side of Speer (Lawrence Street Center, CU Denver building, and Business School) will be badge-access only next week in preparation for possible increased activity in the vicinity related to the election. Please continue to visibly wear your ID badge and have it available upon check-in at health stations.
- Lynx Crossing Residence Hall: Lynx Crossing is not impacted by the order and continues to meet the heightened restrictions.
Thank you for continuing to comply with safety protocols and recommendations, both on and off campus. Please regularly check your university email and stay up to date on the latest information.
November 5, 2020:
COVID-19 cases continue to rise within and around our community. During the last two weeks, we have seen an increase in the number of individuals who were exposed to someone with COVID-19. We’ve also seen an increase in COVID-19 cases in our students, faculty, and staff who have not been on campus. However, we do not see transmission on campus nor in the residence hall, Lynx Crossing. This is good news. People are wearing masks, social distancing, and staying away when sick.
The bad news is that people are being exposed at home by family members or roommates and at other group gatherings. This is consistent with what the city and state are reporting, and there is no easy advice on how to handle family events, the upcoming holidays, or how to hug your kids or partner in a safe way. Thankfully at CU Denver, we are still able to work, respond to students/colleagues, and teach classes. Our campus community needs our help, advice, guidance, and skills. Please continue to take care of yourselves and your families, know that it is OK to ask for help, and prioritize connection and community.
