Zoom Waiting Room and Passcode Requirements from OIT

Published: Sept. 4, 2020

Zoom will be requiring that all meetings have a Passcode or Waiting Room enabled beginning on Sunday, September 27. These security measures have been designed to give better control around meeting security options while keeping the join experience as effortless as possible.
Following is the information that Zoom has provided the university regarding these upcoming changes:

  • For meetings that do not have either a Passcode or Waiting Room enabled by September 27, Zoom will enable a Waiting Room for you.
  • You can customize the Waiting Room experience so individuals within your account, or on an approved list of domains, can bypass the Waiting Room and directly join the meeting.
  • Zoom has also improved the Waiting Room notifications so the meeting host can now receive a visual and auditory notification that an attendee has entered the Waiting Room.

In addition, OIT has more information about using Zoom, how-to and best practices, remote working collaboration tools, and key cybersecurity safeguards on the OIT website.
