Modified Grading Option Extended Through Summer

From Linda Bowman
Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs

I am writing to you today with the news that CU Denver will be extending the option for modified grading into the summer 2020 semester. As most of you know, we announced that students will have the option to choose between their assigned letter grade or a P+/P/NP that will not impact their GPA at the end of the spring 2020 semester. Now they will have the opportunity to choose this option for their summer 2020 courses as well.

The CU Denver Modified Grading website has loads of information about the policy, including a brief video that explains how it works, step-by-step instructions for students, and FAQs. The  Academic Policy Updates webpage  provides updates on policies like Academic Standing/Progress and Grade Forgiveness. Please visit these websites for more information.

As you will see on the Modified Grading website, undergraduate student requests for modified grading will be handled by students’ assigned academic advisor in one of the school/college advising units or the Center for Academic Exploration & Advising (CUE & A). Graduate students should request grade modification through their advisor or program director. Students can learn how to find their assigned academic advisor and make an appointment with their advisor by visiting the  Modified Grading website.

Finally, students will be submitting their requests for modified grades once the semester ends and they are able to see their assigned letter grade.  This will be a very busy time for advisors and the Registrar’s Office who will be processing the requests. If you are a faculty member it is important that you submit your students' grades to the Registrar’s Office on time (May 21 for spring, August 6 for summer). We all need to do our part to make this work!

Thank you for your continued hard work and your dedication to our students!
