General Biology Curriculum Reform

Published: Feb. 28, 2020

The Department of Integrative Biology at CU Denver has played a leadership role in the effort to reform introductory STEM courses by re-envisioning the way science is taught through integrating inclusive teaching and course practices. The work done by Biology will provide a reference for future inclusive course reform efforts in CLAS.

A number of faculty from the Department of Integrative Biology Department attended a 3-day workshop entitled Inclusive Excellence in General Biology that was led by Dr. Jeffrey Boyer, North Dakota State University.  From that workshop, faculty then created a vision statement for what an introductory biology course should look like.  This vision statement is guiding ongoing curriculum reform efforts to ensure introductory classes are accessible to, and include, all students.
