While working for the Fish & Wildlife Service Mike transferred to the National Park Service in order to be the principal liaison behind the reintroduction of wolves to Yellowstone National Park in 1994 to 1997. Later, he accepted the opportunity to co-found the Turner Endangered Species Fund and Turner Biodiversity Divisions with Ted Turner.  He is a trained wildlife biologist with expertise in large carnivores and one of the foremost experts on wolves in the country.  He has participated in the recovery of the eastern Red Wolf as well as the Mexican gray wolf.
