The vast reach of humans and the resulting degradation of nature are of major concern to wildlife scientists, conservation practitioners, and the general public. Specifically, habitat loss and fragmentation have been targeted as primary threats to biological diversity worldwide, and urbanization is a leading agent of habitat destruction and cause of species endangerment. In this talk, I will overview our research investigating the effects of habitat fragmentation on wildlife, focused on mammalian carnivores in urban systems.  Case studies will include past and ongoing research to understand fragmentation effects at local to global scales. Ultimately, we anticipate that study of the responses of wildlife to habitat fragmentation will help guide strategic priorities for conservation in our increasingly urban world.

Everyone is welcome to the seminar. If you would like to meet with the speaker, please email Dr. Brian Buma at brian.buma@ucdenver.edu
