GES Community Service Day: Keeping Cherry Creek Clean

Published: April 13, 2026

GES hosted a fun Community Service Day on the morning of Saturday, April 11. A dedicated group of 14 volunteers gathered to help Denver Parks and Recreation clean up the Cherry Creek Trail near the Auraria campus. The morning kicked off under beautiful sunny skies at the Denver Downtown Playground with a diverse mix of faculty, including Bryan Wee and Lisa Kelley, alongside GES and other undergraduate students and even a local neighbor who jumped in to help. Working together, the team collected garbage along the trail, keeping it out of Colorado’s waterways and improving the experience of trail users. The event was a great success, blending community building with environmental action right in our own backyard. The department is already looking forward to hosting another community service day in the fall, so stay tuned for more details on how you can get involved!
