Tyrone Braxton recently completed his PhD in the Health and Behavioral Sciences program at the University of Colorado Denver. His dissertation, titled “A Deeper Look at Reentry from Prison: Explaining Recidivism Among African American Men with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder or Depression,” explores how formerly incarcerated individuals can successfully reintegrate into society through hard work and the removal of social and structural barriers.

Tyrone has extensive experience working with the formerly incarcerated population at the Mental Health Center of Denver, where he assisted individuals upon their release from prison and jail in finding housing, employment, and both physical and mental healthcare. In the fall of 2021, he taught a course on “Workplace Communication” for incarcerated residents at Sterling Correctional Facility in Sterling, Colorado, through the University of Colorado Denver.
