Shana was born in Denver, Colorado and is a career educator.  She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Colorado State University with a major in French, a minor in German, and completed the requirements to earn her Colorado teaching license.  She spent two years teaching French and German to middle- and high school students, then returned to school to study French and Teaching English as a Second/Foreign language at the graduate level.  She completed a Master’s degree in Academic Advising at Kansas State University in 2021.

Shana’s career in education has occurred in many settings, including teaching French and German to middle- and high-school students as well as French at the university level, and helping international students prepare for college admission.  Shana also served as a Peace Corps Volunteer, teaching technical English at a polytechnic university in Burkina Faso, a country located in West Africa. 

Shana discovered her love of advising in 2012 while working with international students as well as Chemistry and Math students at the University of California, Riverside. Shana joined the CU Denver CLAS Advising Office in November 2018 and has worked with the CU Denver College-in-Prison Program since 2022.  As an advisor, Shana is constantly amazed by the dreams and goals of her students and is honored to support in achieving them.  When she’s not advising students, she enjoys playing her fiddle and hammered dulcimer.  She also enjoys yarn and fiber crafts of all sorts, including spinning yarn, knitting, crocheting and weaving, and shares her love of fiber by teaching weaving and crochet.
