James O’Mara is a PhD candidate in Communication Studies at Colorado State University. His research interests coalesce around socioeconomic class, rhetoric, cultural studies, and materiality. His dissertation offers a rhetorical criticism of working-class places in Fort Collins, Colorado, which aids scholars in understanding how consumer practices in the US contribute to horizontal class antagonism. James is also co-authoring an essay that examines the rhetorical contours of the relationship between Columbus, Indiana, and their largest corporate employer, Cummins Inc. This work has been presented at the National Communication Association, Rhetoric Society of America, and Western States Communication Association conferences. Additionally, he has also taught numerous courses in Communication Studies, including Public Speaking, Introduction to Popular Communication, Argumentation and Deliberation, Political Communication, and Urban Communication.
