Shana was born in Denver, Colorado and is a career educator.  She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Colorado State University with a major in French, a minor in German, and completed the requirements to earn her Colorado teaching license.  She spent two years teaching French and German to middle- and high school students, then returned to school to study French and Teaching English as a Second/Foreign language at the graduate level.

After completing her graduate coursework, Shana joined the Peace Corps to teach technical English at a polytechnic university in Burkina Faso, a country located in West Africa.  After returning from the Peace Corps, she spent many years teaching English to recent immigrants and international students.  She discovered her love of advising while working with international students as well as Chemistry and Math students at the University of California, Riverside.

Shana joined the CLAS Advising Office in November 2018.  As an advisor, Shana is constantly amazed by the dreams and goals of her students and is honored to support in achieving them.  When she’s not advising students, she enjoys playing her fiddle and hammered dulcimer.  She also enjoys yarn and fiber crafts of all sorts, including spinning yarn, knitting and crocheting.
