Erick is an educator who leads with relationships, care, and community. He began his career at the Community College of Aurora as an Academic Coach supporting first-generation college students—an experience that deepened his commitment to making higher education more accessible and human-centered. In 2018, he joined the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Colorado Denver, where he currently advises undergraduate students, including those in the International College Beijing program.
A proud first-generation college graduate, Erick earned his Bachelor of Arts in Mexican American Studies from the University of Northern Colorado. His path wasn’t linear—he changed majors several times and was guided by mentors in TRIO Student Support Services, cultural centers, and student organizations. These communities helped him find his purpose, and he now pays that forward by helping students feel seen, supported, and empowered to define success on their own terms.
Erick’s strengths lie in building trust, translating policy into accessible support, and creating inclusive spaces where students feel like they belong. Outside of work, he enjoys reading, binge-watching TV, and spending time with his husband, Ephraem, and their two Shih Tzus, Maxwell and Mateo. He’s also a lifelong panda enthusiast who still dreams of being a panda nanny someday.
