Cecilio grew up in El Paso, Texas, on the borderlands of northern México and the southwestern U.S. He is a first-generation college student and earned his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in English Literature from the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) and his Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree in College Student Personnel from the University of Maryland in College Park. He is a proud UTEP Miner and Maryland Terp!

Cecilio has been supporting college students as an academic advisor since 2007. He joined the CU Denver CLAS Academic Advising team in the fall of 2012 after serving and working with undeclared students at Colorado State University for four years. Cecilio is grounded in developing effective and responsive advising relationships that help all students shape and engage in a meaningful undergraduate experience. Cecilio continues to advise CLAS undergraduate students and since 2020, has been supporting CLAS Academic Advising team members in his role as the Assistant Director. 

In his free time, Cecilio finds joy in long naps, exploring new restaurants, keeping up with his favorite TV shows, enjoying concerts, traveling with his husband, and running around with their dog, Chase.
