01.07.2025 - CLAS Staff Council Meeting

Professional Development

  • No new professional development requests

Staff Awards

  • No nominations as of January 2nd, 2025, will have Karen send a reminder email when classes start.

Collaborative Workshops

  • No major updates from the last meeting, Kristen is going to put out feelers (better to put out feelers in the new year) for potential workshops. Michelle, Maria or Angie do you want to present on department budget? And if they didn’t want to do a presentation alone it could be co-presented with someone from CLAS Finance.  
  • ​More to come on these workshops.

CLAS Bylaws

  • Has been handed off to another committee and staff representatives are Angela Beale and Karen Fennell.

Social Event

  • The committee will work on planning this! 
  • No new ideas for an event. 
  • Springtime event, nearing the event of the semester. When it’s warmer outside. 
  • Budget is up to date in Teams.

Newsletter

  • No need for January newsletter
  • Revist in February meeting

CLAS Staff Council Bylaws

  • The committee needs to meet, will set up a time soon. 
  • Do a more in-depth dive into the CLAS Staff Council bylaws. 
  • Tossing around coupling voting on bylaw changes with this year’s election for council members. 

Elections 

  • Kristen will start work on this in March. 
  • Kristen will step down as Vice Chair, start having people think about if they want to serve as Vice Chair.  
  • Think about being on the election committee, no need for concrete plans today.

Pathways to Promotion/Career Progression/Dean Meeting 

  • Email response from Carri forwarded from Angie 
  • Recap: frustration from the CCC training, felt like general career progression. Met after this meeting, sent a follow-up inquiry to Carri.  
  • Recap meeting with Dean: outspoken on our end from the meeting. The Dean was receptive and acknowledged that it is sometimes difficult to get information from Central HR. Where can we go to figure out what is expected of certain positions - this review process is not going to be an easy one, it will be a lot to take on.  
  • Get on April Chairs and Directors meeting, take this action, email to Karen.  
  • Schedule a meeting with Carri and the Dean together to consider how we can all work together.  
  • Pay equity review requests for all staff. Work on having multiple individuals work together on submitting these.  
  • Request slides from the last CCC training as a resource 
  • The committee formed for these series of meetings and for the training at the chairs and directors meeting – Michelle, Angie, Kalena, Kayla and Kristen. Will schedule to meet on this. Send out meeting poll for this subcommittee. 
    • Ideas for training: Greater understanding of job descriptions, expectations, how to communicate, how staff positions work within the structure, working towards greater partnership. 

Sending out the CLAS Job Satisfaction Survey Report – Kristen wants to send this out broadly, DEI Committee, EDI Liaisons, Faculty?, HR, CLAS HR.
