CLAS Staff Council Meeting 1.18.2024

In attendance: Kayla Spencer, Maria Rase, James Salmen, Michelle Medal, Angela Schmitt, Maria Rase, Anne Beard, Kristen Salsbury

New Employee Recognition Program

The new employee recognition program is in place and information is on the website. For spring 2023, individuals can receive only 2 prizes each. The value of the prizes are about $10 each and recipients can choose between a one day parking or Wellness Center pass, or a Starbucks gift card. Each eligible staff member nominated will receive a prize.

Budget

An update on the council’s budget was provided (see attachment).

Other Staff Recognition Opportunities

The CLAS Mix Tape Program for February 15th from 3-5 pm, will focus on faculty research and will be in the style of a mocktail gathering and will include displays. The coordinator would like to include recognition of staff contributions to faculty research. Ideas were brainstormed on how to visually represent such contributions, including having a table with staff on hand to explain, creating a poster summarizing types of contributions, and contacting the CLAS grants team for a summary of contributions. A QR code linked to the employee recognition program should be part of the display recognizing staff.

New Staff Liaison to the CLAS DEI Council

Kayla Spencer recently became the new staff liaison for the CLAS DEI Council. The plan is to conduct focus groups within CLAS to guide the work of the council. There has been a call for volunteers to conduct stay and exit interviews with staff. There is an increasing focus on staff work experiences, likely due to negative responses to last year’s Staff Job Satisfaction Survey.

Spring Social Event

Ideas for a spring social event included another Q&A gathering for staff with the Dean, a networking mixer that included the Dean, a happy hour, or a combined staff/chairs lunch meeting on the model of the monthly chairs meetings. There was discussion of possible venues, including a food hall, restaurant/bar, or on campus.

2024 Job Satisfaction Survey

The Job Satisfaction Survey was distributed again this year by the CU Denver Staff Council. Results will be available in March.

Email to Staff

An email will be sent to staff summarizing key developments and upcoming activities, including this year’s election and awards cycles.
