When the city was first founded, there was little hope that it would last. Thomas J. Noel or "Dr. Colorado," a Professor of History and Director of Public History, Preservation & Colorado Studies explained recently, "The difference was the people involved – the human beings who worked to keep the town alive. There were a lot of ambitious people who laid the groundwork for the Denver of today."
