For the first time ever, the Mathematical and Statistical Sciences team, led by faculty advisor Gary Olson, was recognized as "Outstanding Winners" in the INFORMS COMAP Interdisciplinary Competition in Modeling. This is a worldwide competition with teams from all over the world (Australia, Canada, China, Hong Kong SAR, Indonesia, Singapore, United Kingdom, and USA) competing.
Out of the 5025 teams, only the 14 best teams got ranked "outstanding." Moreover, the CU Denver team competed in the most competitive category, with 3209 teams in competition and only 5 outstanding winners. The problem focused on the theme of environmental science, and teams needed to understand the drivers of water scarcity to create intervention strategies for a region to mitigate the water crisis.
