This March and April, Professor David Hildebrand is teaching seminars on the philosophy of art and aesthetics at Ca' Foscari university in Venice.

At the University of Bologna on April 12th he will present a paper entitled "Preserving meaning in an age of Algorithms and A.I. — Borgman and Dewey." He is looking at how practices and primary experiences are challenged and changed by new technologies such as A.I. What are the effects of such technologies on how we create? What changes about the meaning of cultural works (stories, images, reports) when they are A.I. generated or A.I. assisted? His paper looks both to (neo-Heideggerian) Albert Borgmann's notion of "focal things and practices" and to (Pragmatist) John Dewey's ideas on experience and empathy. Both philosophers are concerned with the ethical dimension of technology.

Professor Hildebrand will be teaching on philosophy of art/aesthetics for Fall 2024 at CU Denver.
