Students in CU Denver’s Gentrification and Social Equity course don’t just study urban change—they step into it.

During a recent walking tour through Denver’s River North (RiNo) district, students explored the evolving landscape of street art as a living reflection of gentrification, tracing how creative expression both shapes and is shaped by shifting economic and cultural forces.

Guided by Professor Tony Robinson, the class connects real-world observation with critical conversations about displacement, equity, and resistance—turning Denver itself into a classroom. It’s a hands-on moment where learning meets lived experience, helping students build the momentum to understand complex urban challenges and ultimately meet their moment as informed, engaged changemakers.
