Christopher Beekman has published a long chapter with his colleagues on "Structure and History in the Americas: Closed and Interconnected?" in Harvard's History of the World series.
The chapter occurs in the sixth and final volume of the series to be published, Entangled Worlds: 600–1350, edited by Daniel G. König. The chapter follows the series theme of globalization, connectivity, and entanglement between regions of the world. We take an approach that melds Fernand Braudel's approach to history over the longue durée and Pierre Bourdieu's practice theory to give a material, grounded approach to this period in the Americas.
