Learning Assistants and STEM at CU Denver

The mission of the CU Denver Learning Assistant program is to support student learning, satisfaction, and retention in Science, Technology, Mathematics, and Engineering (STEM) courses, particularly those courses that are large enrollment, critical for success in a degree program, and/or have historically low retention rates.

Goals of the CU Denver STEM LA Program

  1. Improve student learning and satisfaction in gatekeeper and gateway courses.

  2. Support pedagogical reform efforts in undergraduate science and math courses.

  3. Increase access and community engagement in STEM courses and disciplines.

  4. Give high performing science students an opportunity to become peer leaders, learn about STEM teaching and learning, and explore teaching as a career choice.

  5. Grow Student Leaders by helping Learning Assistant develop peer leadership skills.
